China’s new energy storage will usher in a period of great development opportunities
By the end of 2022, the installed capacity of renewable energy in China has reached 1.213 billion kilowatts, which is more than the national installed capacity of coal power, accounting for 47.3% of the total installed capacity of power generation in the country. The annual power generation capacity is more than 2700 billion kilowatt-hours, accounting for 31.6% of the total social power consumption, which is equivalent to the electricity consumption of the EU in 2021. The regulation problem of the whole power system will become more and more prominent, so the new energy storage will usher in a period of great development opportunities!
The General Secretary pointed out that promoting the development of new and clean energy should be given a more prominent position. In 2022, with the deepening of the energy revolution, China’s renewable energy development achieved a new breakthrough, and the total installed capacity of the country’s coal power has historically exceeded the national installed capacity, entering a new stage of large-scale high-quality leapfrog development.
At the beginning of the Spring Festival, a lot of clean electric energy has been added to the National Power Network. On the Jinsha River, all 16 units of the Baihetan Hydropower Station are put into operation, generating more than 100 million kilowatt-hours of electricity every day. On the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, there are 700000 kilowatts of PV installed in Delingha National Large Wind Power PV Base for grid-connected power generation. Next to the Tengger Desert, 60 wind turbines that have just been put into production began to rotate against the wind, and each revolution can generate 480 degrees of electricity.
In 2022, the new installed capacity of renewable energy such as hydropower, wind power and photovoltaic power generation in the country will reach a new record, accounting for 76% of the new installed capacity of power generation in the country, and become the main body of the new installed capacity of power generation in China.
Li Chuangjun, Director of the New Energy and Renewable Energy Department of the National Energy Administration, said: At present, China’s renewable energy has shown new features of large-scale, high proportion, market-oriented and high-quality development. The market vitality has been fully released. Industrial development has led the world and has entered a new stage of high-quality leapfrog development.
Today, from the desert Gobi to the blue sea, from the roof of the world to the vast plains, renewable energy shows great vitality. Extra-large hydropower stations such as Xiangjiaba, Xiluodu, Wudongde and Baihetan have been put into operation, and a number of large wind power and photovoltaic bases of 10 million kilowatts have been completed and put into operation, including Jiuquan, Gansu, Hami, Xinjiang and Zhangjiakou, Hebei.
The installed capacity of hydropower, wind power, photovoltaic power generation and biomass power generation in China has been the first in the world for many years in a row. The key components such as photovoltaic modules, wind turbines and gear boxes produced in China account for 70% of the global market share. In 2022, equipment made in China will contribute more than 40% of the global renewable energy emissions reduction. China has become an active participant and important contributor to the global response to climate change.
Yi Yuechun, Executive Vice President of the General Institute of Hydropower Planning and Design: The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China proposed to actively and steadily promote carbon peak and carbon neutralization, which put forward higher requirements for the development of renewable energy. We should not only develop on a large scale, but also consume at a high level. We should also ensure the reliable and stable supply of electricity and accelerate the planning and construction of a new energy system.
At present, China is fully promoting the high-quality leaping development of renewable energy, focusing on the desert, Gobi and desert areas, and accelerating the construction of new energy bases on seven continents, including the upper reaches of the Yellow River, the Hexi Corridor, the “several” bends of the Yellow River, and Xinjiang, as well as the two major waterscape integrated bases and offshore wind power base clusters in southeast Tibet, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou and Guangxi.
In order to push the wind power into the deep sea, China’s first floating wind power platform, “CNOOC Mission Hills”, with a water depth of more than 100 meters and an offshore distance of more than 100 kilometers, is undergoing rapid commissioning and is scheduled to be fully put into operation in June this year.
In order to absorb new energy on a large scale, in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia, seven energy storage technology verification platforms, including solid-state lithium-ion batteries, sodium-ion batteries and flywheel energy storage, are accelerating research and development.
Sun Changping, president of the Research Institute of Science and Technology of the Three Gorges Group, said: We will promote this suitable and safe new energy storage technology to the large-scale development of new energy projects, so as to improve the absorption capacity of new energy grid connection and the safe operation level of the power grid.
The National Energy Administration predicts that by 2025, China’s wind and solar power generation will double from 2020, and more than 80% of the new electricity consumption of the whole society will be generated from renewable energy.
